Setting up Crashplan

Now that you have been added to the department Crashplan system, follow the steps below:

  • Go to console.us2.crashplan.com
  • Type in your netID@byu.edu
  • If it asks, type your netID password
  • Hover over the ADMINSTRATION tab and click on Downloads
  • Click on the link on the far right to download the appropriate installer for your operating system
    • For Windows 10 and newer, please use the 64 bit installer.
  • Install the client

Once the client is installed it, open it.  It should ask you to login, so use your netID@byu.edu and it will also ask you for the server you are connecting to so use clients.us2.crashplan.com.

Important for Mac Users: You will need to allow full disc access for Crashplan or it will not be able to perform backups.

By default, Crashplan will back up your entire user folder.  If that is not what you want and you want to be more selective or add additional folders outside that one you can do that in the settings.  The first run will take some time, so be prepared to let it run for a while for it to complete. After that it will backup on whatever schedule you select for it.
